Hier ein live Bericht, einer Tierschützerin, von einem Tag bei esma:
Starting my report, will make several postings ....Woke up this morning after dreaming of our animals at ESMA all night, decided I 'Had' to go...Phoned my friend Evelina (Homeopathatic consultant who works with us on a volunteer basis at ESMA, also a forigner like me, and a bit worried about going out like me! but anyway we decided to risk it (thanks Eve!)...There were long ques at the Cairo/Alex toll gate, large army presence checking all ID's, after that road was fairly clear, there were no obstructions on the road to the shelter but was a dead horse on the canal road (Nezleet El Samaan) perhaps a casualty of the Tahrir Square, when thugs rode into the square with horses and camels.....Had a lot of food for the shelter that I bought on the first day of the trouble and hadn't managed to deliver, was a bit worried about someone stealing the food from my car! arrived...ARRIval at ESMA - As usual we were welcomed by the excited barking of the dogs, always grateful to have visitors! (they never have enough!), workers were relieved that I had managed to bring the food that I had bought and stored more than a week ago!, went into the clinic and unfortunately it was not a happy site...There was a persian cat that had died during the night. A very sick grey tabby cat with phnuemonia and a small black and white kitten that had lost an eye. Also a very sick puppy that seems to have a viral infection I immediately went to him to try and comfort him and force feed him, he is very sick, I doubt he will make it. After feeding him a few drops, and Eva givng him some of her medicines he seemed to perk up a little, but his gums and tongue are very pale.. not a good sign.. He is also very cold.. There were also a group of small puppies in the clinic, again this is a very vulnerable time for them, pray for them...Also in the clinic one of the many dumped animals found in the streets, a beautiful white persian found by Mona in the middle of town, with peircing blue eyes....Also dumped in the last few days a grey persian, a ginger persian, and a dalmation dog! As our vets had not been able to get there for the last week we had a lot of serious cases regarding the dogs. One dog has a gangerous paw, it will probably need amputating tomorrow, another black dog his back was open deeply as he has a very bad case of mange, he continously scratches at it with his back paws...he will also have to go to an outside vet tomorrow, the wound is so deep. Good news Mai looks a look better, hair is growing back, eyes better and she seems back to her old self, Baby Saint in general was good, but skin condition still bad...they were very happy to see me...We do not deny that even in these difficult circumstances we need your help, this is what we ask of you for those that can :
-We need to take all the very sick cases I mentioned below to Dr, Noor tomorrow, can anyone help transport them to and from Noor? If not we need to rent a large car.. We need to pay for the treatm...ents (we have NO cash) we are expecting that the dog with the gangerous paw will need an amputation...i.e. we need a sponsor for this, for sure we will need to purchase medications for all these cases, again we rely on our supporters to help us please...Also badly needed:
-thin small fleece blankets for the cases in the clinic, we only have rough army blankets
-electrical heating pads to keep the critical cases warm (each one cost LE280)
-Tins of kitten and puppy food and cereals
-lots of towels
-vaccinations for all the puppies and cats that have recently entered our shelter (we have run out)
The list unfortunately continues....List of help required (continued from post below):
We have refrained from asking our sponsors to pay their sponsorships, they say tomorrow the banks will open, if so please dear sponsors ring Mona if you can afford to pay your sponsorship...
We have only paid our workers 70% of their salaries, we have not paid any overt...ime we promised them (so they would stay during this crisis), vets and Mohamed have not been paid at all yet!
We still have the daily struggle of trying to find and pay for food, we already had to cut the 2 meals to one, we need donations for food or food itself, rice, chickens, tins and dried...also we need detergents and disinfectants and bleach donations.
I know i am asking a lot, in a time when everyone is in need...but please try to help us stay afloat until we receive some donations pledged from abroad....
Thank you on behalf of the animals at ESMA
Humbly but not ashamed to ask..
